Ellyn Weiss is a painter, printmaker, curator, blogger (GessoHead.org), with studios in Mt. Rainier, MD and Truro, MA. Ellyn has had more than 20 solo shows and has participated in numerous juried and group exhibitions. She is represented by the Wohlfarth Gallery, Washington, DC; Art Advisory, Washington, DC; and the Adah Rose Gallery in Kensington, MD. She works in a wide variety of media; one recent solo show was composed of paintings made entirely of tar. Much of her recent work is encaustic – wax with oil pigment. “Twelve Linear Feet,” her abstract mural in oilbar and dry pigments, is the largest painting in the District of Columbia City Hall Collection in the John A Wilson Building, a distinction in which she takes particular pleasure.
The art that I most admire speaks directly to the heart without mediation or explanation, like music. That is the goal that I reach for. My imagery is inspired by the forms of biological structures, which are perfect in their beauty and functionality.
