Hello, I am a jewelry, mosaic, and pressed flower artist and I've loved to make things all my life! The name of my business is Reinvented Elegance because I "reinvent" natural, found, and recycled materials to create many of my pieces -- all are made with total happiness, a touch of whimsy, and lots of love.
My jewelry designs feature everything from pressed flowers to buttons and are concocted with wire, beads, resin, knotting, crochet work, etc, etc, etc. I also create mosaics from chipped and broken dinnerware, discarded pottery, recycled tiles, river glass and sea shells, recycled stained glass bits, and thrift store figurines. In my free time (!), I roam the fields of Alexandria (VA) to find beautiful wild flowers and leaves to press use in my creations.
I'm a rare native Washingtonian, a joyful wife and grateful moher of five two-legged children and six four-legged children, and a former government contractor (analyst). I have a frightening ability to see beauty in everything from nature to the discarded and (so far!) the rugged perseverance to drag it home. I am a recycler by heart and delight in every opportunity to save and create with materials originally destined for landfill.
I am now in my 15th year of selling my artwork and have been honored to be a vendor at many juried markets in the DC area. In the past year I have also enjoyed working as an artist-in-residence at Palette 22 in the Shirlington neighborhood of Arlington, VA.
As an artist, my goal is to make people smile by creating whimsical pieces that showcase nature's beauty and reinvent as many things as possible along the way. I love my job so much it seldom seems like work, and create each piece with great joy and enthusiasm. I hope everything I make reflects this happy karma. :)
