I approach painting the way I approach life–as a serendipitous opportunity to celebrate the human spirit, to embrace and reveal our dual natures: masculine/feminine, thinking/feeling, searching/finding, and the many layers in between. Figurative subject matter originates with a strong gestural technique infused with an abstract expressionist explosion of color as both interpretive prism and celebration. Often merging foreground and background, a layered technique explores complex individual identity and its relationship to the world at large. Such portrayals demand an intimate understanding and connection with my subjects.
